Synopsis
The last thing she needs after running from one monster is to land in the lair of the Devil.

Twenty-one year old Ember flees her past with soot on her face, ash in her hair, and a promise. She’ll never let another man take away her freedom and treat her like she means nothing.

But that is exactly what Maverick Gunn, leader of the notorious Harbinger’s of Chaos Motorcycle Club seeks to do from the moment his lethal gaze locks on her. He burns her with every look. Every touch. Every word.

Ember’s only hope is to convince him she’s nothing like the woman who blackened his soul before he drags her down into the darkness with him.

I was hooked from the first page of this book, and literally only put it down when I absolutely had to. This book is a bit longer than I was expecting it to be, but since it was pretty much nonstop action, the pages flew by.

The character development was great, and for the most part I loved all of the HOCs we got to meet in this story (I'm still on the fence about Taz though). Ember Pierce has not lived any sort of easy life, and now that she's made an escape, she might have literally jumped out of the frying pan straight into hell. But she will do what she has to in order to survive.

The HOCs are already dealing with a lot of issues that have occurred for their club: the assassination attempt on their leader Cap, the impending prison release of who could be the HOCs next leader, as well as dealing with another MC who wants to move into their territory.

As much as Mav tries to fight it, he's drawn to Ember, which could pose a problem since she's at the Club as a "gift" to Edge when he gets out. But as these stories go, we know that plans always change, especially when it comes to matters of the heart.

There are a couple of twists that occurred that I wasn't expecting, but for the most this story is straightforward. We do get to meet quite a few characters, but we don't get enough information on some of them, so that left me feeling a bit confused because there wasn't a resolution given in a couple of instances (what exactly was Blaire's issue with Ember? Who was responsible for Cap's accident? What about Bethany and Dozer?)

This has a HEA, for some of the characters; Ember gained something at the end, but it was bittersweet how she got it. One part of her past has been rectified, but there's still another piece of the puzzle that's in the wind, and I can't wait to see how that will resolve itself. While I'd like a resolution for Dozer, I'm kinda hoping the next book will be about Taz and Ivy, I have a feeling that while it shouldn't be an overall funny book, it just might be since we get to see both of them in rare form in this book.
