This is a book I wasn't expecting. I was expecting something more along the lines of cattiness and a whole bunch of smutty, sexy times. So I'm happy to say that this is a story about new friends, demanding jobs and dating in late 90s New York City.
While the circle of friends is five, we get the story from only two perspectives: Natalie Pepper and Candace Kanie, who actually meet in a rather unusual way. I liked Natalie as a character, she seems like the kind of friend you want to have in your life (miBnus that one indiscretion, but hey, she had enough sense to stop). Candace is a very in-your-face person, the type of female who would unjustly be labeled as a "ball-buster". The remaning friends are Maggie, who is in a long distance relationship with Ernesto; Catalina, who gives the vibe that she's better than everyone else, including the circle of friends, and doesn't like Natalie for some reason; and Lulu, a vivacious Brazilian who is a former classmate of Candace and Maggie.
We get to experience the dating ups and downs of both Natalie and Candace in this book. Natalie is struggling with her feelings for a co-worker, while trying her best to stick to her "no dating co-workers" rule, and Candace is...well...attempting to build a mountain out of a douchebag with the guy she's seeing. There are hurt feelings in the story because the girl code wasn't honored, so I understand why Candace reacted the way she did. The only thing that wasn't really resolved was the whole deal with Sam, and even Catalina.
Overall, this was a fun story to read, so much that I've already purchased the next book in the series to see what's going to happen with Natalie.
